This programme helps managers understand that supporting wellbeing does not mean having to solve every problem themselves. It means knowing how to respond, what you can influence, where the boundaries are, and when additional support is needed.
How do you check in with someone without overstepping? How do you recognise when workload is becoming unsustainable? What can you realistically influence as a manager? And how do you support your team while maintaining appropriate boundaries and looking after your own wellbeing?
This practical programme gives managers the knowledge, confidence and tools to make wellbeing part of how they lead their teams every day, connecting employee wellbeing with sustainable performance, psychological safety and healthy ways of working.
What will you learn?
Over six practical modules, you will learn how to:
Understand your role in workplace wellbeing
Explore the connection between wellbeing and organisational performance, understand where your responsibilities as a manager begin and end, and identify the areas you can directly influence within your team.
Create greater psychological safety
Understand what helps people feel able to speak up, ask questions, raise concerns and acknowledge mistakes. Learn practical communication approaches that build trust and maintain psychological safety, particularly during periods of change and uncertainty.
Have better wellbeing conversations
Build the confidence to recognise when someone may be struggling and know how to start the conversation. You will practise listening techniques, explore language that helps, language to avoid and understand when and how to signpost someone towards additional support.
Manage workload and boundaries more sustainably
Understand how workload, recovery time, technology and an ‘always-on’ culture can affect wellbeing. Explore practical approaches to boundaries, hybrid and flexible working, and the Right to Disconnect that can work within the realities of your own team.
Build wellbeing into the way your team works
Move beyond wellbeing as an occasional initiative. Explore practical approaches to meetings, check-ins, team routines and working practices that can support wellbeing without simply adding another task to everyone’s workload.
Know what is working – and what needs to change
Learn simple ways to gather feedback and use the information you already have to understand what is happening within your team. You will explore practical measurement approaches and develop a 90-day plan for continuous improvement.
Practical tools you can take back to work
Throughout the programme, participants will work with practical frameworks and tools including the WHO Healthy Workplace Model, psychological safety principles based on Amy Edmondson’s research, the CHECK-IN conversation model, workload and recovery approaches, team wellbeing audits, team charter development, and the Plan-Do-Check-Act model.
The emphasis throughout is on application: understanding the evidence, translating it into the manager’s role, and deciding what you can realistically do differently with your team.
By the end of the programme
You should leave better equipped to recognise wellbeing concerns earlier, approach sensitive conversations with greater confidence, manage the balance between wellbeing and performance, create healthier team boundaries, strengthen psychological safety and build practical wellbeing practices into everyday work.
